A gynoid is a humanoid robot designed to look like a human female, as compared to an android modeled after a male. The term is not common, however, with android being used to refer to both "genders" of robot. The word fembot (female robot)is also used in common parlance.
Gynoids were originaly created by the Japanese military for use in mundane matters such as receptionists, maids and other domestic tasks on and around military bases. It was thought to give the soldiers a more relaxed atmosphere. Using sophisticated software called B.R.A.I.N.S (Biometric Robot Artificial Intelligence Neural System) the first Gynoids were able to respond to requests in several different languages, play certain card and board games and aproximate human behavior along set patterns.
The next evolution was giving them more independant thought process, allowing them to reason out problems instead of following a linear pattern to their behavior. This developed into a personality matrix which would grow and expand with time and experience. Around this time, the technology fell through the corporate cracks and into the hands of the Japanese Yakuza who built Gynoids for less than domestic tasks.
